Why film?

When I moved to San Francisco in 2010, I bought a used Nikon FM2 at Camera Heaven on Larkin Street and taught myself how to use it.

Since then, I’ve been bringing that same camera into rehearsals, dark theaters and nightclubs, home gatherings, on trips to special places and walks with friends. I love the way film holds the texture of a moment in time. For me, making photos is a full-body practice of tuning into light and timing with precision and feeling. I play with chance and texture with in-camera double-exposures; I enjoy allowing the wisdom and chemistry of the film to be expressed through a project. I’ve worked in several darkrooms & I am currently building towards a home darkroom practice to make silver gelatin prints!

Portraits

Striking film portraits and headshots for print, website and marketing use, created in an easeful and kind photoshoot container that centers discovery and trust.

Documentation

Event photos that capture texture, movement and depth from the perspective of an embodied artist; ranging from theatrical performances, rehearsals, classes - to celebrations, dinners and parties.

- Edited large JPEGs (20-25MB file size per photo), small JPEGs for web (4-6MB) upon request
- Digital files delivered within 7-10 days of the shoot (allowing for film processing + scanning)
- Re-edit of photos upon request (coloring, re-touching, monochrome treatment, etc)
To prepare, we’ll connect via a brief conversation to check in and define priorities, goals, and visions together. I’ll bring my curiosity and deep devotion to process; along with thoughtful attention to detail and organizational skills. I will suggest film options based on the shoot site, lighting and vision! When shooting, we’ll move slowly — with care, intention and openness.
* If you’re looking for a photographer and photoshoot experience that produces thousands of images to pick from, I might not be the best fit! I work with film because I love the constraint of working within a roll. I love the intention, energy and magic it brings out of us both and that’s what I’m after. I am open to discussing hybrid shoots with my digital gear, so let’s chat if that’s something you think you might need.
- My project minimum is $200, which includes 1 scanned & edited roll of film (est. 30-36 images).
- I offer 1-4+ roll shoots which scale up in pricing roughly by $100 per additional roll; to cover rolls of film, shoot time, processing costs and editing labor.
- I want my rates to be transparent and fair to both my clients and myself. I’m still learning about what works best for people / for me and the film, so please contact me with questions or feedback.
- If the project minimum isn’t workable for you, reach out! I am open to discussing your budget and trade possibilities to find a way to meet both our needs.
